The Ponies hosted the Section 4AAA team meet on Friday and were hoping to celebrate a championship in their home gym. Section 4AAA includes Tartan, White Bear Lake, Irondale, Moundsview, Roseville, Centennial and Stillwater. The Ponies have won 8 of the last 9 Section 4AAA titles and were hoping to start a new streak with a win Friday.

In round 1 the Ponies had a bye and awaited the winner of White Bear Lake vs. Irondale. Centennial took down Roseville and Moundsview easily beat Tartan. In the semifinals the Ponies wrestled White Bear Lake and did not give up a point winning the dual with ease by a score of 69-0. Eli Nye and Jordan Gunderson filled in for starters who were out and each won their matches. The Ponies recorded 6 falls and 4 tech falls on their way to the win.

On the other mat Centennial battled Moundsview working to avenge a loss earlier in the season. It came right down to the end with Centennial earning a fall at 285 to win the dual and reach their first Section 4AAA final in eight years.

In the finals the Ponies continued to pour it on the Cougars winning 10 of 13 matches and gaining a decisive defeat at 55-15. The Ponies are heading back to the State Team tournament for the 2nd year on a row and now 9 out of the last 10 seasons. The Ponies hold a 25-2 season record with 3 more duals to come at the State Tournament. Stillwater should be the 2 seed in the tournament and will most likely have to go through Shakopee to get to the finals against STMA.

Next week we find out who will be attending the State Tournament as an individual and the Ponies should be well represented.
