The Ponies continued their pursuit of the post season with two back to back triangulars this past Thursday and Friday evening.  On Thursday the Ponies hosted the Spartans of Orono and the Cougars of Centennial.  Even though the Ponies varsity was a little shorthanded on Thursday they were able to handle Orono by a score of 78-0 and Centennial by a score of 54-12.  On the JV side the Ponies also faired well taking 6 of 7 matches from Orono and finishing about even with Centennial.  Of note, Grady Newman, a first year wrestler won his first match of the season.

On Friday evening the Ponies headed to White Bear Lake for a triangular with two more SEC rivals in the Bears and the Wolfpack.  The Ponies faced the Bears first winning 11 of 13 matches for a score of 64-6.  In round 2, the Ponies took on Park and managed a 46-16 win.  A big win of note during this dual was at 133 where Mikey Jelinek was down and came back to win over 5th ranked Jubinal by a score of 21-10.  As with Thursday evenings events, the JV performed well against both SEC foes.  The Ponies record stands at 21-6 overall and 8-0 in the SEC.  Assuming the Ponies beat CDH this next week, it will be the first conference championship in 3 years.  This remains to be seen, but we will find out Thursday.

And if there was not enough wrestling for you in Thursday and Friday, the 9th grade State Tournament for boys and girls took place in Champlin Park on Saturday.  The Ponies had 6 boys and 3 girls participate.  Both teams did well.  With over 90 teams participating in the boys 9th Grade State Tournament, the Ponies finished 3rd overall as a team tied with Grand Rapids at 61.5 points.  STMA won the tournament and Region 5 Champ Wayzata took 2nd with 68 points.  The girls finished 18th out of 46 teams with Staples Motley winning it all.  Below are the individual results.
